How NDT helps your treatment
As many of our patients may already know, I am certified in Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), which is an all-encompassing treatment approach designed to address the whole patient and work across disciplines to improve function and quality of life. This means that NDT can be incorporated by Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists.
What’s great about the hands-on course I attended, is that it is comprised of licensed therapists who work within all three previously listed disciplines. This provides great knowledge for all involved, as we all utilize different techniques during our treatments. I am diligently working to share this new knowledge with Crawl Walk’s therapists as the field of rehabilitation is always growing. Plus, learning new techniques is not only fun, but benefits our patients!
NDT also offers a new way of thinking that allows us to structure our goals and treatments differently. This new approach will likely involve your therapists asking specific questions about function at home, at school, during work, etc. This will help us to plan their goals and treatments, so any additional information provided will be extremely beneficial for both us and the patient!
With this in mind, please ensure to write down any challenges and successes you have seen or experienced during functional activities to then share with your therapist. Not only does this allow us to focus on what is most important to the patient and family/caregivers, but it also provides an opportunity for the patient to be actively involved in their care and progress.
As always, never hesitate to discuss new challenges and successes with your therapists to allow us to continue providing the most effective treatments possible.
