Hand Strengthening Activities

We use our hands for a wide variety of tasks throughout the day. Weakness in the hands can often result in struggles with poor handwriting or zipping and buttoning their jackets.  Here are a few fun activities to help your child with hand strength!

  • Building with Legos or Duplo blocks
  • Picking up small objects, such as pom poms or cotton balls, with clothespins
  • Swinging from the monkey bars or climbing ladders and rock walls at the playground
  • Playing with play doh, putty, or clay- rolling, squishing, pinching, and stretching it
  • Squeezing out glue for crafts, or squeezing frosting tubes to decorate treats
  • Wringing out sponges and spraying squirt bottles
  • Playing tug of war
  • Squeezing stress balls and squishy fidgets
