Seeing Different Therapists

Seeing Different Therapists

“Are you going to be our therapist for every visit?”

Connecting with our families and patients on day one is something we strive for – it’s the beginning of our journey together! With this in mind, we completely understand how there is a certain comfort felt with the therapist who completed the initial evaluation. Realizing this, we want patients and families to always feel supported from our entire staff the very moment they enter the clinic. After all, from your first evaluation you have officially been welcomed on as a new CWJR family member!

I recently completed a boy’s evaluation and during the hour we had together, the father had shared information regarding his son’s past, present function and future goals. It is not surprising to us as therapists how exhausting it must be for parents and caregivers to repeat information to various health care providers. Towards the end of our time together, his father had asked, “Are you going to be our therapist for every visit?”.

It was at this moment that I felt it was appropriate to take a little extra time to provide an answer to his question regarding whether I was going to be his son’s only therapist.

“So, what’s the answer?”, you may be wondering.

More often than not, every individual at CWJR will see multiple therapists. It would be impossible for one therapist to master every technique (and we use many here!), which is why a team approach is so beneficial to our patients.

Consider something with me for a moment…what fun would it be if we had 30 therapists with the exact same skill set making up our Crawl Walk team? I can only assume this would become rather boring for our staff, patients and families. Luckily for you, we have a team of therapists who have completed several continuing education certifications and encompass a variety of skills. As therapists, we are so lucky to be a part of a clinic which provides us the opportunity to learn new skills and interventions in order to best serve our patients.

Now returning to the story…

Following my explanation to the boy’s father, he stated how excited he was for his child to begin working with us. Although he would love to work with me again, he now felt comfortable that all therapists would be educated on his son’s needs, goals, history and more, prior to treating him. Like I shared earlier, we truly are a collaborative team across all therapeutic departments!

I want to take a moment to clarify that we will also not hesitate to limit whether a particular patient only sees the same individual therapist, or the same few therapists. As we always like to emphasize, every individual is just that, an individual! As such, you will always receive a customized plan, which comes with your very own goals, therapeutic tools specific to your needs, and amazing therapists.

Additionally, we also encourage patients and families to be open to seeing new therapists during treatment sessions as this allows them to fully benefit from all that our clinic has to offer. One-on-one sessions with multiple skilled therapists provides our patients with endless opportunities for success.
